Hannah is our new waste buster leader now that Logan has gone. We hope that it will stay as good as it was when Logan was here!

Our Waste Audit

On the 16th of August we found quite a lot of rubbish.
(We are still perfecting our videoing skills!!)
We found 17 yogurt containers, 130 paper towels ... don't worry because we can turn it to compost, 19 tea spoons,18 staples, glad wrap x 60, chippie packets 78, pen/highlighters x 4, paper 42 and cardboard 12.

Recycled Craft
Things to make out of recycled stuff: eg cans, paper, plastic etc
Last week we made pencil containers and these were very popular.
This Thursday we are decorating boxes. You may choose any type of box ... depending on what you want to use it for.
Please bring a box and any decorations. (Brooke)

Waste - How much do we have?

We don’t really know clearly what waste we have at school so this week we are conducting a waste survey. We are collecting the rubbish for the week to investigate how much of each type of rubbish there is. It will help us with our plan so we can save the earth so it will still be great in 100 years’ time. (Brooke)
The name of our Whanau group is the Waste Busters.  We sort out the worm farm, the pig farm and the paper.  The worm farm bin was broken so grand-dad fixed it and it is good now.  We sell the worm wee to get money.  Do you want some?  We collect the can taps and sell them for the kidney kids.  We put the paper in the paper bin in the shed and keep it tidy.  (Tyler).

Tip 1

Tip of the week:
Please ... No more gladwrap in lunch boxes. This is because it does not break down ... it just destroys our environment!
Instead ... Why don't you use little reusable containers or bags for food. They can be taken home in our lunchboxes and filled with something new for the next day!!
